Beneficiary Designations
You can make Feeding Champlain Valley a beneficiary of your retirement account, life insurance, donor-advised fund (DAF), or other assets. No lawyers needed, no fees! Simply submit a Change of Beneficiary form or contact your fund administrator for a beneficiary form to name Feeding Champlain Valley the beneficiary of the entire account or a percentage of the fund.
Charitable Gift Annuities, Remainder Trusts, and Lead Trusts
Feeding Champlain Valley and CVOEO have partnered with the Vermont Community Foundation to offer Charitable Gift Annuities, along with Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Lead Trusts. This partnership offers ways to give through your will, living trust, retirement plans, and other mechanisms that may provide fixed income back to you or a loved one for life.
Gift from a Retirement Plan or IRA
A Qualified Charitable Distribution or QCD (sometimes called an IRA Charitable Rollover) is a great way to make a tax-free gift now to Feeding Champlain Valley and also satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). Your RMD is the minimum amount that an individual must withdraw from their IRA each year once they reach age 73. Instruct your IRA provider to distribute funds directly to Feeding Champlain Valley at CVOEO.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can my gift remain anonymous?
Yes. However, knowing about your planned gift in advance helps our organization plan for the future and ensures that your gift is used as you wish. If you prefer to remain anonymous, we respect and honor your preferences.
Is my estate big enough to make a planned gift?
Yes, every gift makes a difference in our community no matter what size. Many people choose to leave a percentage of their estate, which scales up or down with the size of your estate.
How will my planned gift be used?
Your gift will help fund our mission to feed Vermonters here in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. Please contact us if you’d like to designate your gift to a specific program at Feeding Champlain Valley.
Do I need a will to make a planned gift?
Not necessarily! A simple change in beneficiary of your retirement or life insurance plan doesn’t require a will or lawyers.
However, creating a detailed will is critical to ensuring that your wishes are honored. A will is a written document that explains how you want your “assets” — your belongings, money and real estate — to be “distributed” (who they will be given to) after your passing. VTLawHelp.org, a joint project of Vermont Legal Aid and Legal Services, has additional information about the importance of a will.
