Chittenden Food Hub

What led us here:
Feeding Champlain Valley’s flagship location at 228 North Winooski Avenue in Burlington’s Old North End is the busiest food shelf in the state. In recent years, this location has welcomed CVOEO’s Community Resource Center (CRC), a daytime warming and support space for individuals experiencing homelessness. 

Our Old North End location lacks the necessary space to serve the high volume of guests while also lacking warehousing, loading docks, or enough space to receive and move food, hence the need for an additional location.

Our response:
The Chittenden Food Hub, located at 250 Battery Street in Burlington’s South End, will feature a new, state-of-the-art food shelf where community members can shop for nutritious, local, and culturally responsive foods in a welcoming, thoughtfully designed, and accessible environment. 

The new Food Hub will transform regional food access, including a new 2,000-square-foot warehouse, featuring large walk-in refrigeration and freezer systems, expanding our capacity to store and distribute fresh, nutritious food throughout the community. It will also house a modern fulfillment center to support our online market and increase our capacity to process gleaned, rescued, and purchased food. The facility will also include office and meeting space for staff, all alongside CVOEO’s other anti-poverty services.

Our food shelf at the new Chittenden Food Hub will be open Monday – Friday from 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM, and guests can come once per week to get groceries.

Our future in Burlington’s Old North End:
Feeding Champlain Valley’s location in the Old North End will continue to provide meals and groceries.

The Old North End Food Shelf will be modified to represent a walk-in general store model with grab-n-go meals, as well as basic items and online grocery store pickup. 

The building will provide administrative offices as well as expanded culinary services for meal production and packaging. Our chefs will distribute packaged meals throughout the Champlain Valley to shelters, food shelves, our online market recipients, and other partners.
